In the RAG reranking demo, 25 chunks were first retrieved broadly, then handed to a local Jev model to score and filter out the 5 most relevant ones to send to the large model; even without an embedding model and using only BM25 retrieval, good results were achieved.

UnverifiedProduction-grade RAG systems commonly adopt a two-stage architecture of hybrid retrieval plus reranking, first using sparse retrieval (such as BM25) to recall candidate documents, then using a Cross-Encoder to rerank and select passages.75% similarVerifiedHybrid retrieval, which fuses BM25 keyword scores with vector similarity scores through weighted combination (typically using the RRF reciprocal rank fusion algorithm), has become the mainstream paradigm for RAG systems.73% similarVerifiedHybrid retrieval combines BM25 sparse retrieval with dense vector retrieval, merging ranking results via RRF or linear weighting.72% similarUnverified混合检索(向量检索+BM25关键词检索)和Self-RAG(模型自评估是否需要检索)是RAG的进阶技术方向71% similarUnverifiedIndustrial-grade RAG typically combines vector similarity retrieval (ANN algorithms such as HNSW) with BM25 keyword retrieval, and then uses a Rerank model (Cross-Encoder architecture) to re-rank the retrieved results.70% similar
