Confabulation

In cognitive science and AI safety, the tendency of a model to generate fluent but factually incorrect content when it lacks relevant knowledge, without the model itself knowing the content is wrong. It differs subtly from hallucination in emphasizing confident fabrication without a basis in knowledge.
