AEWM

An agent task state management method that judges the contribution of each action to task progress (critical progress, effective exploration, invalid repetition). When invalid repetition is detected, it rewrites the reasoning and the next action based on history, thereby preventing unverified assumptions from continuously contaminating subsequent reasoning.

AEWM's Action Judge component classifies each step into three categories: critical progress (Critical), effective exploration (Exploratory), and ineffective repetition (Noisy).

When the Action Judge rules a step as ineffective repetition, AEWM's State Revision component rewrites the agent's chain of reasoning and next action based on the history that has occurred.

EditAct's workflow is: the agent proposes a step, AEWM is invoked, chooses to keep or rewrite it, then it actually runs, and the result is written into the history.

On the Action Judge benchmark, AEWM achieves a macro-F1 of 70.5%, 10.6 percentage points higher than the strongest competing method.

AEWM-RFT shows that corrected trajectories can be written into the agent's own capabilities, and afterwards, without calling AEWM, the agent still outperforms the version trained only on its own successful trajectories by 2.2, 2.6 and 2.5 percentage points.

The article proposes a four-stage implementation path: stage one builds the minimal company brain, stage two adds the task ledger and checklists, stage three triggers rewriting on ineffective repetition, and only stage four considers AEWM-style training or fine-tuning.
