DLNA is based on the UPnP/SOAP standard; implementation varies greatly across manufacturers and is prone to edge-case issues such as device discovery failures and unsupported formats.
Network discovery protocols UPnP and mDNS were originally designed for automatic device discovery and interconnection, but can also be used to collect device fingerprint information.
Smart TVs scan home network devices via network discovery protocols such as UPnP, mDNS, and SSDP, and can collect information including device type, manufacturer, MAC address, and operating system version.
