ARIA Live Region
A mechanism in the W3C WAI-ARIA accessibility specification for notifying users of dynamic content changes. The aria-live attribute marks a DOM region so that screen readers automatically announce content updates. Two modes are defined: assertive, which interrupts immediately, and polite, which waits for an appropriate pause.

ARIA Live Region is a mechanism in the W3C accessibility specification for notifying users of dynamic content; DOM regions marked as aria-live are monitored by screen readers, which automatically read out updated content.
assertive mode immediately interrupts whatever is currently being read aloud, while polite mode waits for the current speech to finish before announcing.
There are two root causes of accessibility issues in streaming output: the announcement strategy is directly bound to the rendering action, and controls are created before the Markdown fence is closed.
The author's approach is to set the conversation log area to aria-live=off, place phase copy into an already existing polite status region in the tab order, and use a single assertive announcement only when the phase transitions to error.
