Asylum Policy Search
A conversational AI tool used by the UK Home Office to retrieve government country policy documents, intended for asylum decision-makers.
Timeline (last 90 days)
The Home Office uses two generative AI tools in asylum casework: Asylum Case Summarisation (ACS, converting interview transcripts into summaries) and Asylum Policy Search (APS, a conversational tool for searching country policy documents).
Both ACS and APS run on OpenAI's GPT-4o via Microsoft Azure AI Foundry.
Asylum Policy Search (APS) has been used by all asylum decision-makers since July 2025.
In August the Home Office confirmed that expert testing of APS had stopped, but it had previously told MPs that the checks were continuing.
