Back-Translation (BT)

Back-translation is a classic technique from the era of statistical machine translation: the current model translates target-side monolingual text into the source language to generate synthetic parallel sentence pairs, which are then used jointly with genuine parallel corpora for training. The key to BT is converting unlabeled monolingual data directly into translation supervision signals, rather than merely exposing the model to that language.
