canli-mcp
A free, MIT-licensed financial data MCP server built by developer Arhan Canli. It runs on the local desktop and provides financial data query tools for compatible AI clients to invoke.

Arhan Canli fixed canli-mcp's matching bug: when the tool is uncertain, it now says "I don't know" and points elsewhere.
canli-mcp is a financial data MCP server that runs on the author's own computer, so it is only recognized in desktop applications; in browser-based conversations, this connection does not exist and the model cannot reach it.
Developer Arhan Canli publicly wrote about a bug in his early version of canli-mcp (a free, MIT-licensed financial server): when asked for the "silver price," it returned US consumer inflation data, because the word "price" matched the description of an inflation series, while "silver" matched nothing.
A single request returns at most one hundred rows; the server may silently truncate data in the response without any warning (e.g., total: 111 returns only 100 rows).
In a controlled-variable experiment (same model, same prompt, same constraints, only the backend server changed), canli-mcp answered correctly 22 times out of 28 runs; the best alternative, EdgarTools plus Yahoo, answered correctly 15 times out of 28.
The sample size of this comparison experiment is limited: each question was asked twice, so the actual number of distinct questions covered is only about 14, and a single correct or incorrect answer greatly perturbs the conclusion.
canli-mcp is free, MIT-licensed, runs locally, requires no API key to use FRED, World Bank, and OECD public data, and can be run via npx -y canli-mcp.
