CollabSciReM
CollabSciReM is a reward decomposition framework for aligning scientific dialogue. It decomposes the dialogue-level reward into three objective-conditioned components that can be optimized independently: dialogue quality, scientific rigor, and structural efficiency. The framework is intended to improve the accuracy and efficiency of LLMs in research collaboration scenarios.
Timeline (last 90 days)
The CollabSciReM framework decomposes rewards into three dimensions: dialogue quality, scientific rigor, and structural efficiency.
CollabSciReM significantly outperforms science-agnostic general reward baselines in multiple evaluations.
The research team constructed the SciQuality evaluation set, building multi-turn research dialogues based on 300 held-out scientific papers and conducting pairwise evaluations across six dimensions.
The research team fine-tuned the model on 8.62K synthetic research dialogues.
Under the condition of matched response length, CollabSciReM achieved a 65.3% win rate in the SciQuality evaluation.
Across all four Llama and Qwen models, CollabSciReM outperforms science-agnostic reward baselines trained on equivalent data in the SciQuality evaluation.
For the 7B and 8B models, across 10 single-turn and multi-turn benchmark settings, CollabSciReM exceeds the baseline on the primary metric in 8 settings.
Blind testing by domain experts found that CollabSciReM is significantly superior to general reward variants on novelty and reports fewer hallucinated responses.
There is a distribution gap between the synthetic dialogue data (8.62K entries) and real scientific collaboration scenarios, requiring further validation.
Alignment for professional domains should not follow the reward design of general dialogue, but should decompose rigor into independently measurable components and explicitly constrain efficiency.
