`:focus-visible` is a pseudo-class introduced in CSS Selectors Level 4, determined by heuristics in the browser: it matches when focus is obtained via keyboard (Tab, Shift+Tab, arrow keys) or equivalent input; mouse or touch clicks usually do not match, but text input fields are an exception (mouse clicks still match).
