Directed Retrieval
In information retrieval, a query type in which the user's question has a clear, uniquely matching target, such as locating a record by contract number, client name, date range, material code, or person name. The core requirement is an exact hit rather than semantic similarity.

After collecting real user questions and categorizing and counting them, it was found that a considerable proportion of the questions are directed lookups, such as contract numbers, customer names, date ranges, material codes, and person names.
Vector search compares semantic similarity and is inherently poor at exact matching (such as numbers, dates, and codes); directed queries are a weakness of vector search.
