DnR FlatPic
An open-source Agent Skill developed by CreateLafont that converts reference photographs into low-complexity flat-color illustrations. It identifies visual anchor points and reconstructs scenes using hard-edged color blocks, with PNG as the primary output format.
Timeline (last 90 days)
DnR FlatPic is an Agent Skill developed by CreateLafont that converts reference photos into low-complexity flat color-block illustrations.
DnR FlatPic works by first identifying visual anchor points in the image, stripping away non-essential information, and then reconstructing the scene with a small number of hard-edged color blocks rather than simply tracing the original.
The DnR FlatPic author proactively removed the SVG export feature because it was dragging down the quality of the core PNG output.
DnR FlatPic's original PNG-to-SVG functionality was based on VTracer version 1.0.0-alpha.3, called via Node/WASM.
The author deliberately avoided using an AI model to dynamically select tracing parameters for each image, on the grounds that raster image generation is itself non-deterministic, and stacking probabilistic parameter selection on top of that would make debugging a nightmare.
The author locked in a fixed set of preset parameters: color-clustering layered stacking mode, spline curve paths, maxColors 24, filterSpeckle 10, cornerThreshold 30, among others.
The author's priority ordering is: reproducibility > structural cleanliness > pixel-level fidelity.
When one component of a system already has randomness, stacking a probabilistic component on top of it exponentially amplifies debugging difficulty.
The author posed an open question to the community: has anyone successfully built a deterministic raster-to-SVG pipeline specifically for AI-generated flat color illustrations that does not rely on per-image AI parameter tuning or manual fine-tuning?
