EAN-13
Timeline (last 90 days)
For industries that rely on barcodes, self-developed generators need to verify semantic alignment in addition to compliance, and conduct end-to-end testing with real scanning devices and target systems.
EAN-13 has 13 digits in total, the last of which is the check digit, calculated by a weighted mod-10 algorithm to verify whether the first 12 digits were read correctly.
The weighted mod-10 algorithm for the EAN-13 check digit is: counting the first 12 data digits from right to left, odd positions have weight 1 and even positions have weight 3, and after the weighted sum, take the remainder when divided by 10, and subtract the remainder from 10 (if the remainder is 0, the check digit is 0).
In EAN-13, under a certain leading prefix (such as a country code segment), a shift in the determination of the order of odd and even positions may cause incorrect weight assignment, thereby computing the check digit.
UPC-A or EAN-13 barcodes must be presented in 100% vector format, with black bars (100% K) printed on an unprinted pure white background, and the barcode must be kept at least 0.5 inch away from score lines, creases, and die-cut edges.
A developer built a QR code/barcode generation API that returns a base64-encoded PNG or SVG in a single call, supporting multiple symbologies from QR codes to EAN-13.
