Hill Climbing
A classical local search optimization method that starts from the current solution and repeatedly tries neighboring candidate solutions, retaining only the one with the higher score, and iterating until no further improvement is possible.
Timeline (last 90 days)
Eval supports a hill-climbing algorithm, looping repeatedly in Cursor with the /loop command until all scores reach 10.
The hill-climbing algorithm starts from a random rotor/plugboard configuration, scores the linguistic fitness of the decrypted result, and iteratively fine-tunes it; it works extremely well for long ciphertexts but is prone to getting trapped in local optima for short messages.
