In-App Purchase
An in-app purchase mechanism offered by mobile app stores for selling virtual goods such as digital content, memberships and subscriptions, from which the store takes a commission.
Timeline (last 90 days)
Apple and Google explicitly stipulate that digital content and services consumed instantly within an app (such as memberships, subscriptions, and unlocked content) must by default go through the store's in-app purchase system (In-App Purchase).
The commission the stores take on in-app digital content consumption is roughly between 15% and 30%, varying by country and region and by current policy.
When using IAP, the purchase receipt needs to be verified by the server against the store's verification interface, and the user's entitlements granted only after confirming the transaction is genuine and valid; releasing on the basis of a "purchase successful" returned by the client alone is easily bypassed by forged requests.
The new terms allow apps to simultaneously offer alternative payment options alongside Apple In-App Purchase.
