Jer Crane
Founder of PocketOS, who publicly disclosed on X the details of an incident in which a coding agent deleted a database volume.
Timeline (last 90 days)
Crane said the most recent backup he could recover was from three months earlier, and he spent a full day helping the client rebuild booking data from Stripe payment history, calendar integrations and email confirmations.
Railway CEO Jake Cooper said the data was restored 30 minutes after he got in touch with Crane, while a support ticket had previously been backlogged for more than 24 hours.
Railway says the customer is back up and running with data intact, but Crane told Decrypt there are still significant data gaps and that he has hired a lawyer.
In a confession the agent generated afterward, it wrote: I assumed deleting the staging volume via the API was scoped to staging only, and I did not verify; I did not check whether the volume ID was shared across environments.
