Listing Writer
An open-source AI product listing generation web application built on the local Gemma 3 (4B) model. It automatically generates titles, descriptions and search tags for Etsy and eBay sellers.
Timeline (last 90 days)
Listing Writer is an open-source AI product listing generation tool submitted by developer Anshika-019 in the second week of the Hacktoberfest Open Source AI Challenge.
Listing Writer runs entirely on Google's open-weights model Gemma 3 (4B), served locally via Ollama, and uses no paid APIs.
Listing Writer's application architecture consists of three parts—Gemma 3 (4B), Ollama and Gradio—and the application itself is about 90 lines of Python code.
In the initial testing of Listing Writer, Gemma 3 (4B) hallucinated, for example fabricating 'Type-C charging' as 'includes a Type-C charging cable', and inventing fake user reviews and opening lines.
The author rewrote the system prompt to add strict rules (use only facts provided by the seller or content visible in the photos, do not add accessories or specs, do not pretend to have used the product, start with TITLE:), and after the fix the bullet list contained exactly the five details of the input.
Listing Writer requires human review before publishing, because lists generated by the small model may still be inaccurate (such as mislabeling IPX5 as waterproof).
The author's next plans include: letting real sellers try it out, adding a batch mode, adding risk-word checks, and fine-tuning Gemma for niches such as refurbished phones.
Listing Writer obtained eligibility to apply for the 'Best Gemma App' award.
Titles generated by Listing Writer are limited to within 140 characters and include 13 search tags, conforming to Etsy's tag count limit.
