OpenAI Codex CLI
Timeline (last 90 days)
At the time of recording the video, Codex CLI did not yet support deleting old sessions.
By default, Codex CLI constrains AI-generated commands to execute within a sandbox, with write permission covering only the current workspace directory; when switched to full access, the sandbox restrictions are relaxed and network access is automatically opened.
Typing codex resume in the terminal lists all historical sessions under the current project; after selecting with the arrow keys and pressing Enter, the session is restored, and the list supports search filtering.
In Codex CLI, pressing Ctrl+C exits the current session, and running the codex command again starts a brand-new session.
When Codex CLI starts, it prompts frequently used commands such as /init, /status, /approvals and /model.
Codex CLI's /compact command can compress chat history into a summary to control context bloat, and is suitable for long sessions.
The function of Codex CLI's /mention command fully overlaps with directly typing the @ symbol to add file context.
Codex CLI's /status command displays workspace information, approval mode, sandbox permissions, account information, the current model and additional parameters, client version and token usage.
Codex CLI's /approvals offers three approval modes—auto, read only and full access—corresponding respectively to automatic operation within the workspace, write operations requiring manual approval, and full autonomy with open network access.
CLI-style AI coding tools have no visual diff in the terminal like an IDE does, so generated results need more careful review before being written to disk.
