OpenSearch
An open-source search and analytics engine led by Amazon, forked from Elasticsearch. It supports storage and analysis of observability data including logs, metrics, and traces. Version 3.6 established it as a native OpenTelemetry platform.
Timeline (last 90 days)
OpenSearch version 3.6 became a native OpenTelemetry platform.
OpenSearch's metrics storage currently still relies primarily on Prometheus, with a roadmap plan to integrate via the Prometheus API so that OpenSearch can serve as the long-term metrics storage backend.
After Hermes Supervisor connects via OpenSearch's MCP server, it can invoke tools already available in OpenSearch within one minute, including AI agents running on OpenSearch.
The supervisor agent does not need to re-collect data itself, but instead works directly on data already in OpenSearch and brings humans back into the decision loop when necessary.
OpenSearch is Amazon's response to Elasticsearch's license change, and OpenTofu is the community's protest against Terraform's change.
In 2021, Elastic changed Elasticsearch from Apache 2.0 to a dual license of SSPL and Elastic License, giving rise to Amazon's OpenSearch fork project.
PipesHub supports a variety of pluggable underlying technology choices, including Neo4j and ArangoDB as graph databases, Qdrant, OpenSearch, and Redis as vector databases, and Kafka and Redis Streams as message queues.
