Plan-then-execute
An agent design pattern that separates planning and execution into distinct steps: a reasoning step first produces a complete plan, which an execution step then follows strictly. The plan can be reviewed, rolled back, and cached.

Plan-first-then-execute is more sensitive to the quality of the initial plan; a common compromise in practice is to produce a plan first and allow a limited number of plan revisions during execution, but each revision must be recorded as an explicit event.
The plan-then-execute pattern uses one reasoning step to produce a plan and then a separate execution step to follow it, which reduces model drift or self-contradiction on execution details.
