Pokémon Claude Red
A browser-based remake of Pokémon Red rebuilt by a developer using Claude Opus 5.5 to generate approximately 25,000 lines of JavaScript code. The project uses no image files; all graphics and music are generated procedurally through code.
Timeline (last 90 days)
A developer used a single prompt to have Claude Opus 5.5 rebuild the entirety of Pokémon Red from scratch, without using any image files, rendering everything pixel by pixel through code.
The project is named Pokémon Claude Red and can be played directly in a desktop or mobile browser.
The game screen is rendered onto a 320×180 display, generated pixel by pixel without loading any image assets.
Each Pokémon is defined by a set of geometric shapes (ellipses, polygons, color patches) that are colored and outlined at runtime rather than rendered via textures.
The project includes all 224 maps, 8 Gyms, the Team Rocket storyline, the Elite Four and Champion battle, and all 151 Pokémon.
The author rebuilt the classic bugs from the original game based on how the original code worked, including MissingNo. and the Mew glitch.
The author used automated bot testing, having the bot converse with every NPC on every map and conduct thousands of random battles.
On mobile, holding the phone in portrait mode displays a Game Boy button layout, while switching to landscape mode activates a GBA layout.
The project is a free fan project with no official affiliation with Nintendo, and its source code has been made available on GitHub (github.com/levy-street/pokemon-claude-red).
