Pseudonymization
A data privacy protection technique that reduces the risk of data exposure by replacing direct identifiers—such as names and email addresses—with reversible pseudonyms. It is explicitly defined in Article 4 of the GDPR. Its key distinction from anonymization is that original data can be restored using a mapping table.

The key difference between pseudonymization and anonymization lies in reversibility: pseudonymization maintains a locally stored mapping table of tokens to real names, and if that table is leaked, the protection fails.
