Reconciliation
In distributed systems, the process of comparing internal records with the actual state of external systems in order to detect and correct inconsistencies. It is commonly applied in business domains such as payments, orders and reservations, where records held by different systems may diverge and must be brought back into agreement.
Timeline (last 90 days)
Reconciliation is the item-by-item comparison of the amount estimated by rate against the actual charges in the account bill or usage dashboard, and discrepancies may come from promotional credits, rounding, minimum billing units, currency conversion, or uncounted caching behavior.
The key difference between reconciliation and retry is: retry assumes the previous operation failed and actively executes the side effect again, whereas reconciliation assumes the result is unknown and only performs read-only queries, so it produces no new side effects.
Kubernetes's controller pattern is centered on a reconciliation loop design, which gives it inherently strong self-healing capabilities.
Settlement refers to the actual transfer of funds between institutions, while reconciliation is the line-by-line matching of accounts across all parties, typically run in T+1 batch mode.
Reconciliation is a classic reliability technique in financial systems that detects inconsistencies by periodically comparing two independent data sources.
