Solon AI
A Java-based framework for developing AI applications that supports mapping Java methods to AI tool definitions through annotations and provides tool registration and invocation capabilities.
Timeline (last 90 days)
Solon AI's @ToolMapping annotation can map an ordinary Java method to a tool definition, generating the inputSchema from method parameters annotated with @Param or @Body and the outputSchema from the return type.
Solon AI supports two tool scopes: adding default tools via defaultToolAdd when building the ChatModel (attached to every request), and attaching tools to a single request via toolAdd in the request options.
In Solon AI, the tool's actual function executes on the application side, and the result is then fed back to the model.
In Solon AI, for POJO parameters included in a tool's input schema, all their internal fields enter the inputSchema by default; method parameters themselves still follow the @Param/@Body rules.
The default tool-calling path given on the Solon AI official website is user -> llm -> tool -> llm -> user; after setting returnDirect=true it becomes user -> llm -> tool -> user; what returnDirect changes is whether the tool result is handed back to the model for further processing—it is not a bypass of the model, nor a switch for approval, desensitization or idempotency.
