Trace Canvas
A progress visualization tool for multi-agent collaboration scenarios that displays each agent's progress and blocking points in real time on a timeline canvas, and supports a focus mode for concentrating on a single project, helping decision-makers retain a sense of overall control.
Timeline (last 90 days)
Trace Canvas is positioned as "a map that both humans and Agents can understand," rather than a task manager.
Trace Canvas does not store code; when viewing a diff it queries Git in real time, so the displayed content stays consistent with the repository.
Trace Canvas supports multi-machine collaboration: each device points to the same private Git repository, and after syncing they share one canvas, after which it automatically syncs in the background every two minutes.
Trace Canvas has a stagnation detection feature: when a line has been stopped for significantly longer than usual and no Agent is running, a small dot appears on the goal as a hint, without a popup.
Trace Canvas's retrospective feature reads the conversations within a line, ranks each matter by back-and-forth turns, points out the sticking points and suggests one rule, and writing it in requires the user to click to confirm.
The Trace Canvas 0.3.0 release contains 11 short lessons, covering the whole process from installation to multi-machine collaboration.
Trace Canvas only requires Node.js to install, with no npm install needed; after cloning, a single command starts it, and the page runs locally.
Trace Canvas is free and open source, and all content is stored only in a single local file.
Claude Code can automatically leave traces on Trace Canvas through the Hooks mechanism, recording the session process.
Trace Canvas's MCP tools expose the canvas as interfaces callable by Agents, through which Agents can read goals, to-dos, and historical decisions, and write new sites or update statuses.

50%UnverifiedIn Trace Canvas, one line corresponds to one project, and sessions of different Agents under the same project folder are all recorded on the same line.
50%UnverifiedTrace Canvas sites have five types: ideas, tasks, Agents, decisions, and notes; dark colors indicate user-authored content, and colored ones indicate Agent-authored content.
50%UnverifiedThe branch-style graph is a GET graph (Graph of Events over Time) that arranges event records in chronological order, with one lane per line, and is used to trace interaction history rather than show task dependencies.
50%UnverifiedTrace Canvas's Hooks record structured events (the first instruction, file changes, commit messages, etc.) rather than full conversation text, to protect privacy and facilitate retrieval.
50%UnverifiedTrace Canvas supports switching to focus mode at key moments, when the canvas branches, timelines and goals are reduced to just one project.
50%UnverifiedTrace Canvas is currently only a concept demo and has not yet been actually implemented.
50%UnverifiedTrace Canvas's visualization approach does not change the Agent itself; rather, it keeps human decision-makers feeling in control through the interface.
50%UnverifiedBy plotting each Agent's progress in real time on its own timeline, Trace Canvas helps decision-makers see the whole picture and focus on a single project.
