Triggers and Events
An experimental extension mechanism for the MCP protocol that allows clients to register event subscriptions with an MCP server. It supports three delivery modes—Pull, Push, and Webhook—enabling AI agents to be activated by external events without requiring manual user input.
Timeline (last 90 days)
The MCP community is developing an experimental extension called Triggers and Events, which allows clients to register subscriptions with MCP servers to receive external events.
The extension proposes three event delivery methods: Pull, Push, and Webhook.
Pull mode introduces a cursor mechanism whereby the client carries the cursor of the last received event, the server returns the next batch of events along with a new cursor, and a null cursor is used for bootstrapping on the first subscription.
Push mode reuses MCP's existing stream mechanism to establish a long-lived event stream between the client and server, suitable for low-latency, high-throughput scenarios.
