Universal Design for Learning

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is an educational framework proposed by the CAST organization in the 1980s and adopted in the United States ESSA legislation. It comprises three principles: multiple means of representation, multiple means of action and expression, and multiple means of engagement. Its core idea is that barriers originate from the environment rather than the individual, and that instruction should adapt to students rather than the reverse.
