x87 Floating-Point Unit
A floating-point arithmetic unit standard introduced by Intel with the 8087 coprocessor in 1980. It uses an 80-bit extended precision format and remains in use in the x86 ABI for the C language long double type. A large number of legacy binary programs contain x87 instructions.
