U.S. federal public land is mainly managed by four major agencies: the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) oversees about 245 million acres, the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) manages about 193 million acres, and the National Park Service (NPS) and the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) are responsible for protected areas and wildlife habitat, respectively.
