Chain
One of the interaction structural levels in the EgoOmniWorld framework. It handles the dependency chaining of multiple interactions and requires the model to reason across multiple layers of dependency, corresponding to the concept of a directed path in graph theory.

A Chain is a pre-orchestrated fixed pipeline whose execution path is determined when the code is written; an Agent, by contrast, leaves what to do next to the model itself to decide, with the model outputting tool call requests based on the goal and the list of available tools, and after the framework executes them it feeds the results back, looping repeatedly until the task is complete.
Chain handles the dependency chaining of multiple interactions, that is, the result of one action becomes the precondition of the next action, and this kind of chain dependency is especially common in long videos.
EgoOmniWorld decomposes interaction into four complementary structural levels, Node, Edge, Chain and Loop, with progressively increasing complexity.
LangChain's Chain pattern has bottlenecks when a process requires conditional branching, loops, retries, or human-in-the-loop interaction, and it lacks a native state-preservation mechanism.
Graph execution flow is a topological network structure that supports loops, branches, and parallelism, whereas Chain is a unidirectional linear sequential execution.
The Chain pattern has no native state management, and complex context and intermediate variables must be stored and passed manually.
The AI application development paradigm is shifting from a chain-based (Chain) structure to a graph-based (Graph) structure.
Chain is suitable for simple linear tasks but has limited capability in complex Agent scenarios, while Graph is inherently suited for complex decision-making based on its node, edge, and state model.
Chains have four underlying limitations: inability to backtrack, no native state management, inability to perform dynamic branching, and no structured memory mechanism.
In terms of fault tolerance, Chain has virtually none—one wrong step causes everything downstream to collapse with no ability to retry—whereas Graph supports retries, fallback logic, and checkpoint-based resumption.
