Decoherence
A physical process in which interaction between a quantum state and its environment causes coherence (the off-diagonal elements of the density matrix) to decay over time. It is typically characterized by two timescales: relaxation (T1) and dephasing (T2).

Decoherence itself does not select which branch becomes "our" branch; the many-worlds interpretation holds that all branches are equally real.
Decoherence is uncontrolled entanglement between a quantum system and its environment, and can be quantitatively described by the decay of the off-diagonal elements of the density matrix, with its characteristic timescales being the coherence times T₁ and T₂.
