Engy
A verifiable inference API built on Bittensor subnet SN53, compatible with the OpenAI interface. It uses Merkle root and TOPLOC proof techniques to achieve cryptographic verification of model identity, with zero data retention enabled by default.
Timeline (last 90 days)
Neither solution eliminates trust; rather, both shift trust to a place that users can at least partially verify.
Engy (SN53) and SayGM (SN28) are two subnets based on Bittensor.
In Engy, the weights and quantization method of each model are fixed via a publicly available Merkle root, every response carries a TOPLOC proof, validation nodes sample and recompute the proof and compare it against the fixed checkpoint, and miners that fail verification are penalized.
Engy's verification scheme requires no TEE or trusted hardware; the proof locks in mathematical operations rather than the machine itself, and therefore services can be provided on permissionless compute clusters (including consumer-grade GPUs).
Engy claims that all accounts adopt a zero data retention policy by default.
Engy's verification is sampling-based and probabilistic, not a complete proof of every forward pass, and the verification only proves which model was run without providing privacy guarantees.
Decision recommendations: choose Engy when you need to know precisely which open-source model responded (e.g., evaluations, long-running agent runs); choose SayGM when using Claude/GPT/Gemini and wanting the routing layer sealed; choose SayGM's -tee models when using open-source models and requiring the strongest privacy.
The Cline free model list has added Solar Mini 4, removed DeepSeek V4.1 Flash and space-bunny-alpha, and added the Engy provider.
