Enum Value
A mechanism in JSON Schema that restricts a field to a predefined set of allowed values. Strict parsers validate enum values and, when a value does not match, either raise an error or discard the response.
Timeline (last 90 days)
Placing the exact enum value immediately next to the natural-language label in the prompt (e.g., "Status: At risk (corresponding enum value: risk)") can reduce the probability of the model copying the wrong label.
A strict parser validates enum values during deserialization and throws an error or discards the entire response as soon as there is a mismatch.
Renaming an enum value is treated by the type system as the same type, but every downstream consumer that relies on string matching will immediately break.
