Fabric IQ MCP Server
A Microsoft MCP Server that provides AI tools and agents with read-only access to Microsoft Fabric resources, supporting queries against reports and semantic models. It uses a delegated authentication mechanism to enforce permission security.
Timeline (last 90 days)
In IQ MCP Server, for an agent to answer a question it must first learn the available tables, relationships and measures through the schema tool, and then assemble the DAX query itself; the measure definitions in the semantic model themselves become the agent's API contract, and missing measures often directly manifest as errors or incomplete answers.
Each query of IQ MCP Server targets only one semantic model and returns at most 250 rows by default, unless the client actively requests more.
The current version of IQ MCP Server does not yet support ontologies and data agents; they each have their own independent MCP endpoints.
Fabric Core MCP Server manages resources, workspaces, items and roles; Fabric IQ MCP Server is read-only and only queries Power BI content, changing nothing.
Using IQ MCP Server requires a Microsoft Entra work or school account, a tenant whose home region supports all Fabric workloads, and access to at least one report or semantic model; the content does not have to be placed on Fabric or Premium capacity.
The client of IQ MCP Server requests three delegated Power BI permissions, which users can consent to themselves unless the tenant restricts user consent; therefore the consent policy is the administrator's actual point of control.
The pricing of IQ MCP Server has not yet been announced.
Microsoft-hosted Fabric IQ MCP Server became generally available in September 2026, connecting AI agents and MCP clients to Power BI reports and semantic models in the form of a remote server.
Connecting to IQ MCP Server does not require a workspace role or build permission; having access to a certain report or model is enough; whereas the Power BI consumption endpoint has heavier requirements in terms of permissions and tenant configuration.
IQ MCP Server exposes six read-only tools: finding a report or model by name, resolving links, reading report metadata, reading model schema, searching stored values, and executing DAX queries.

50%UnverifiedIn IQ MCP Server queries, row-level security (RLS) and object-level security (OLS) still take effect, two people asking the same question may get different answers, and there is no administrator backdoor path.
