Fiber Optic Gyroscope
A high-precision optical gyroscope based on the Sagnac effect. It measures angular velocity by means of the time difference between clockwise and counterclockwise light propagation in a fiber loop. Its precision far exceeds that of MEMS gyroscopes, but its size and cost are greater, and it is mainly used in high-precision scenarios such as aerospace and submarines.
Timeline (last 90 days)
The bias stability of MEMS gyroscopes is usually far lower than that of fiber-optic gyroscopes and ring laser gyroscopes, and high-precision scenarios such as submarines and aerospace still rely on larger-volume optical gyroscopes.
The bias stability of consumer-grade MEMS gyroscopes may be a few degrees to tens of degrees per hour, while fiber-optic gyroscopes can achieve 0.01°/h or even lower.
