Graviton
Graviton is a series of ARM-based cloud computing processors independently developed by Amazon Web Services (AWS) for the AWS cloud infrastructure. The processor series is characterized by high energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness, supporting a range of cloud workloads including general-purpose computing, web services, databases, caching, microservices, and machine learning. It is used in AWS EC2 instances and various managed services.
Timeline (last 90 days)
99% of Amazon's top 1,000 EC2 customers are using Graviton processors.
Graviton offers about 40% better price-performance than comparable x86 processors.
In 2018, AWS launched its self-developed ARM chip Graviton; ARM server chips can typically deliver comparable or superior performance at 40% lower power consumption, and by 2024 the ARM architecture accounted for approximately 15–20% of global cloud server shipments.
The AWS Graviton series has iterated to its fifth generation since the first generation was released in 2018, and is based on the Arm architecture.
