Hyperloop
A high-speed transportation concept proposed by Elon Musk in 2013. Passenger pods travel through low-pressure sealed tubes and are propelled by linear induction motors and air bearings. The theoretical maximum speed is approximately 1,200 kilometres per hour.
Timeline (last 90 days)
The Boring Company has proposed building a Hyperloop line between Austin and San Antonio, Texas.
The core concept of Hyperloop is to run sealed pods inside low-pressure tubes, achieving speeds far beyond those of conventional rail transportation by reducing air resistance.
The only Hyperloop test tracks built worldwide to date are experimental segments on the order of hundreds of meters to a few kilometers.
Long-term maintenance of a low-pressure environment, emergency evacuation safety mechanisms, and the sealing of ultra-long tubes are key engineering challenges that Hyperloop has yet to resolve.
Hyperloop has yet to have a genuinely large-scale commercial deployment case.
