IP Functions
A set of native IP address processing functions built into the Databricks Lakehouse platform. The functions support IP address validity verification, CIDR subnet containment checks, unified handling of IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, and address range comparisons, enabling network data analysis workflows within the platform.
Timeline (last 90 days)
Databricks' IP Functions have officially entered the GA (General Availability) stage.
IP Functions are a set of built-in SQL functions specifically designed for parsing, validating, and correlating IPv4 and IPv6 addresses as well as CIDR network segments.
IP Functions have been performance-optimized for Databricks' Photon engine and receive a native implementation in Photon.
Databricks positions IP functions as a key building block of its Security Lakehouse vision.
The GA of IP functions allows Databricks users to gradually retire the custom UDFs and regex-based solutions they previously maintained and replace them with standard functions.
Databricks' IP Functions have officially entered the General Availability (GA) stage.
Typical application scenarios for IP functions include security analysis, network operations, compliance auditing, and CDN content distribution analysis.
IP Functions allow network analysis to be performed directly within the Lakehouse platform using standard SQL, without the need to migrate data across systems.
The capabilities provided by IP Functions include IP address validity verification and format parsing, CIDR subnet containment determination, unified handling of IPv4 and IPv6, and comparison and sorting of IP address ranges.
With IP Functions, subnet matching logic that previously required dozens of lines of code can now often be accomplished in a single line of SQL.
