Mistral Vibe
Mistral Vibe is an open-source, terminal-native AI coding agent tool released by Mistral AI, operating through a command-line interface. It is designed to assist developers with code generation, editing, debugging, and automation of project-level coding tasks. The tool is freely available as open source and enables developers to interact with codebases using natural language instructions within a local terminal environment, belonging to the category of AI-assisted coding agent products.
Timeline (last 90 days)
Eterna founder Jesse Gamble demonstrated an experiment connecting five AI products—ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Meta Muse and Mistral Vibe—to real business systems without API keys.
In the test, each of the five AIs started a brand-new conversation and received exactly the same prompt, and the result was that all five models returned the same five unfinished work orders and all reported that the system was healthy.
Starting from version 2.26, Mistral Vibe uses two log formats depending on the engine; the current engine writes to logs/session/unified/<id>/ using an event-sourcing-like structure (CURRENT points to the latest snapshot, and manifest lists chunks and journal).
In Mistral Vibe's current engine, sub-agents leave no history of their own, and only the lead's subagent.spawn, .send_message, .wait, and .stop operations on it can be seen.
Mistral Vibe's early engine writes to a <prefix>_<date>_<time>_<id>/ directory containing messages.jsonl and meta.json, where each sub-agent is an independent session under the agents/ folder, but messages have no timestamps and files are saved at the end of each step.
Mistral is positioned as a full-stack AI company, covering the model layer, application layer (Mistral Vibe, Vibe Work), AI Studio, Forge, and Mistral Compute.
