Niels Bohr
Danish physicist and one of the founders of quantum mechanics, known for proposing the Bohr atomic model. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922 and, together with Hendrika van Leeuwen, co-derived the Bohr–van Leeuwen theorem.
Timeline (last 90 days)
The Bohr–van Leeuwen theorem proves that, under the laws of classical physics, no substance in thermal equilibrium can exhibit net magnetism.
In the early 20th century, Bohr and van Leeuwen each independently concluded that classical physics cannot explain the existence of magnetism.
