Online Evaluation
An evaluation methodology focused on the continuous runtime performance of AI Agents in production environments. Distinct from offline testing, it is used to monitor the real-world quality and stability of deployed Agents and encompasses multiple assessment approaches.
Timeline (last 90 days)
Online evaluation does not need to pay for system-under-test inference, because the production environment has already paid for it.
Offline evaluation and online evaluation are complementary, not mutually exclusive.
The core selling point of semantic verifiers is that they are cheap and fast, making them particularly suitable for online evaluation scenarios that require scoring large numbers of execution traces.
In online evaluation, the per-call cost of an evaluator is amplified thousands or even millions of times, so being cheap and fast directly determines whether a solution is viable.
Evaluation can be divided into online evaluation (real-time monitoring in a production environment) and offline evaluation (batch testing on a fixed test set), with the latter being the foundation for rapid iteration.
