An image-recognition technique in astronomical software that compares captured star-field images against star catalog databases. By analyzing the relative positions and brightness patterns of stars, it derives the celestial coordinates (right ascension and declination) of the image center to arcsecond precision. It is widely used in observatory auto-guiding systems and consumer-grade astronomy software.
