Sentinel-1
A C-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite operating under the European Space Agency (ESA) Copernicus Programme. It enables all-weather, day-and-night Earth surface observation through cloud cover, providing dual-polarization data (VV and VH) at a spatial resolution of 10 metres.
Timeline (last 90 days)
Fodder Watch uses Sentinel-2 (10-meter resolution, 5-day revisit) as the optical channel, Sentinel-1 C-band SAR as the cloud-penetrating radar channel, and Landsat 8/9 (combined 8-day revisit) for historical baseline time series.
Sentinel-1 satellites operate in dual-polarization mode, simultaneously acquiring data in both VV (vertical transmit–vertical receive) and VH (vertical transmit–horizontal receive) polarizations; VV is more sensitive to surface scattering from soil, while VH responds more strongly to volumetric scattering from vegetation.
Sentinel-2 provides red and near-infrared band imagery at 10-meter resolution, which closely matches the spatial resolution of Sentinel-1's SAR data.
