A mid-range smartphone released by Sony, equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chip and shipping with Android 14 preinstalled.
Timeline (last 90 days)
The Sony Xperia 10 VI was released two years ago, equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chip and Android 14.
Sony officially promised to provide the Xperia 10 VI with three major OS version updates, including Android 17.
According to the latest notice posted on Sony UK's support page, the Xperia 10 VI will not receive the Android 17 upgrade.
Sony's phone business is in a state of contraction, and the cancellation of updates for the Xperia 10 VI further weakens its competitiveness in the mid-range market.
After major version updates stop, although security patches may continue for some time, the device will be unable to receive Android 17's new APIs, privacy-enhancing features, and underlying optimizations, and may be marginalized by the ecosystem in the long run.
