Meta Refurbished Quest 3S Drops Nearly $100 — A Great Time to Get Into VR
Meta's refurbished Quest 3S hits $255.99 with promo code — a great low-cost way to try VR
The official refurbished Meta Quest 3S is on sale at Meta's eBay store for $255.99 with promo code SAVE20TECH through November 8. That's about $45 below the new unit's recent $300 promotional price and nearly $100 off the regular price. The article says this lowers the barrier to entry-level VR, making it suitable for first-time users or budget-conscious buyers, though shoppers should confirm the promo code, condition grading, and warranty terms first.
If you're curious about virtual reality but don't want to spend a lot upfront, the Meta Quest 3S has always been a solid entry-level option. Now, the refurbished version of this headset is getting a discount worth paying attention to: buy it through Meta's eBay store and use promo code SAVE20TECH to bring the price down to $255.99. The offer runs through November 8.
For reference, the brand-new version of this headset recently dropped to $300. That means the refurbished price is about $45 lower than the new promotional price, and nearly $100 below the regular retail price. For an entry-level product, that difference is enough to cover a fair amount of accessories or content.
Why the Refurbished Quest 3S Is Worth Considering
The Cost Barrier to Entry-Level VR Just Got Lower
The Quest 3S was designed from the start to let more people experience mixed reality at low cost. It retains the core interaction model of the Quest 3 while making trade-offs on price. The refurbished version pushes the entry point down to $255.99, significantly lowering the cost of trying it out for users who just want to "give it a shot."
Refurbished doesn't mean used. Official refurbished units typically means the device has been tested and reconditioned and is fully functional. For budget-conscious users who still want relatively reliable after-sales support, this is a middle-ground option.
Timing and Purchase Channel
This deal has two key conditions: you must order from Meta's eBay store, and you need to enter promo code SAVE20TECH. The offer ends November 8, so the window isn't long. If you've been on the fence, this is a moment worth noting.
Keep in mind that both the promo code and refurbished stock are subject to availability. Before ordering, it's best to confirm the promo code is still valid, along with the specific condition grading and warranty terms for the refurbished version.
Quest 3S vs. Quest 3: The Trade-Offs
The Quest 3S is Meta's entry-level mixed reality headset launched in 2024, essentially a "trimmed-down" version of the Quest 3. Both share the same-generation Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip and similar interaction logic (hand tracking, Touch Plus controllers), so app compatibility and core experience are largely the same. The main differences are in optics and display: the Quest 3S uses Fresnel lenses instead of pancake lenses, has a thicker body and slightly higher weight, lower resolution and field of view than the Quest 3, and drops the 3.5mm headphone jack. These trade-offs are exactly what bring the price down by about $200, making it the cheapest new headset that offers the full Quest ecosystem and mixed reality experience.
What "Official Refurbished" Means
Official refurbished units typically come from returns, display units, or devices with minor cosmetic flaws. The manufacturer or an authorized party completes inspection, cleaning, replacement of worn parts (such as face covers and batteries), and repackaging. There may be slight signs of use on the exterior, but functionality and battery life should meet factory standards. Unlike individual secondhand sales, official refurbished units generally come with a limited warranty (commonly 90 days to 1 year, depending on the channel) and support normal return and exchange processes. When buying, pay attention to the condition grade, warranty duration, and battery health notes, since these directly determine whether the actual price gap between refurbished and new is worth it.
Why Meta's eBay Store
eBay's official brand stores (such as Meta's official refurbished store) are a common channel for manufacturers to clear inventory and sell refurbished units. Compared with the official website, the platform often has additional promo codes stacked on top, so it's not unusual to see lower final prices than on the official site. This also means inventory, shipping, and after-sales support are handled by that store rather than Meta's official website account system, and warranty registration and return processes may differ slightly from official website purchases. Before ordering, it's advisable to confirm whether the seller is a Meta official certified account, whether platform buyer protection is supported, and whether quality issues go through eBay returns or Meta support.
Who Should Buy Now
First-Time VR Users
If you've never used VR, the low price of the refurbished Quest 3S makes "trying it out" more reasonable. Even if you later find you don't use it often, the absolute loss is relatively limited.
Budget-Conscious Users Who Want the Full Experience
Compared with a new unit, the money saved on a refurbished unit can go toward games, accessories, or comfort mods. For users who care more about the actual experience than "unboxing something brand new," this is a more practical allocation.
Situations That Call for Caution
If you're very sensitive about device condition, or want the most hassle-free after-sales process, the new version is still the safer choice. The warranty coverage and process for refurbished products may vary by channel, so read the details carefully before purchasing.
Final Thoughts
The refurbished Meta Quest 3S at $255.99 lowers the barrier to entry-level VR yet again. It's not necessarily for everyone, but for users who want to enter the VR world at low cost, this is an opportunity worth evaluating. The discount ends November 8, so before deciding, it's worth confirming the promo code and stock status.
