ARM
ARM (Advanced RISC Machines) is a British semiconductor intellectual property (IP) company whose core business is designing and licensing Reduced Instruction Set Computing (RISC) processor architectures. Its architectures are broadly deployed in mobile devices, embedded systems, servers, and IoT applications. Major product lines include the Cortex series processor cores and Mali graphics processors. ARM operates an IP licensing business model, licensing designs to chip manufacturers rather than fabricating chips itself.
Core Facts
C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) was jointly founded in 2021 by Adobe, Microsoft, Intel, BBC, Arm, and other organizations.
Apple's launch of the M1 chip in 2020 was the first to prove the viability of ARM architecture on PCs.
Starting with the M1 chip, Apple uses a Unified Memory Architecture (UMA) where the CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine share the same memory pool.
Timeline (last 90 days)
Firmware reverse engineering is the most difficult, because it targets multiple architectures such as ARM, MIPS, and RISC-V, usually has its symbol table stripped, and may also be compressed or encrypted.
CPU startup New Valkyrie, founded only six months ago, is seeking financing, with a target valuation of about $2.5 billion and fundraising of several hundred million dollars. Its founder previously led three generations of architecture at ARM, Apple, and Qualcomm. Its approach is to first define the core functions and then choose the architecture, deliberately avoiding X86 and ARM, and targeting the demand from data center CPU scheduling and the surge in AI agents.
On ARM platforms, certain memory regions require the driver to explicitly perform cache flush or invalidation operations; otherwise the GPU may read stale values from the CPU cache, causing rendering errors or system crashes.
On the x86 architecture, the CPU and GPU typically share a cache-coherent view, while ARM SoCs handle cache coherency between the CPU and GPU in varying ways.
The author proposed that the next extension direction is to measure the ability of models to optimize code separately for ARM and x86 assembly architectures.
If you are heavily dependent on specific Android apps, choosing the ARM version of Google Book may be the safer option.
The native code of Android apps is typically compiled to generate binaries only for ARM, and running them on x86 devices requires relying on dynamic binary translation at the system level (such as Intel's Houdini translation layer).
There is currently no sufficient publicly available technical information on Vera; based on context, it may refer to a server chip solution based on ARM or a custom ISA.
Architectures such as x86 and ARM are subject to patent and licensing restrictions, unlike the fully open nature of RISC-V.
Arduino is a development board based on AVR or ARM microcontrollers, using a C/C++ programming model, suitable for embedded scenarios that directly drive sensors and peripherals.
