JIT
A technique that dynamically compiles intermediate code into machine code at program runtime, enabling runtime-driven optimizations. Because compilation occurs during execution, JIT compilation makes static guarantees about memory layout difficult to enforce. It is commonly used in environments such as the Java Virtual Machine and JavaScript engines.

Just-in-time (JIT) loading, as an AI Agent tool-invocation strategy, lets vulnerable components stay hidden during scans because they have not yet been used, and only be pulled in after a specific task triggers them, thereby bypassing detection based on the currently loaded state.
If a new IDE reuses an existing VM, it can immediately gain mature just-in-time compilation (JIT), garbage collection, and FFI capabilities, at the cost of being constrained by that VM's capability boundaries and license.
The experimental JIT introduced starting with Python 3.13 uses a "copy and patch" strategy, gradually translating the interpreter's specialized instructions into machine code, rather than building a complete compiler from scratch.
In the Fibonacci test, the JIT delivered a 1.2x performance improvement over the standard interpreter, the first time Miguel Grinberg has observed a meaningful JIT performance improvement.
Julia uses a JIT (just-in-time compilation) mechanism that compiles a function into machine code optimized for the current data types on its first call.
De-virtualization is a downstream benefit of PGO: when runtime data indicates that a virtual method call site always invokes the same concrete type, the JIT can replace it with a direct call or even inline it.
The performance optimization work in .NET 11 spans the JIT compiler, class libraries, memory allocation, locking mechanisms, system calls, SIMD instructions, and Profile-Guided Optimization (PGO).
Static translation (AOT) cannot handle self-modifying code and code dynamically generated at runtime, while dynamic translation (JIT) can handle dynamically generated code but the translation itself consumes CPU and memory resources.
For the tightest hot loops, laying out data in contiguous memory blocks in processing order ensures data is prefetched into the CPU cache, a guarantee that JIT generally cannot provide.
Julia achieves the flexibility of dynamic languages and the performance of statically compiled languages through just-in-time (JIT) compilation technology and a type system.
