Lightroom
Lightroom is a professional photography workflow application developed by Adobe, offering integrated management of photo import, organization, editing, and output. Core capabilities include non-destructive RAW image processing, color grading, exposure adjustment, batch editing, and keyword-based cataloging. It shares an underlying processing engine with Adobe Camera Raw. The software is available in two versions: Lightroom Classic, which uses local desktop storage, and Lightroom, which relies on cloud synchronization.
Timeline (last 90 days)
Over the past decade, Microsoft has updated built-in system apps such as Photos, Mail and Calendar far less frequently than third-party competitors, causing a large number of users to migrate to tools such as Google Photos and Lightroom.
Photoshop's smart objects and adjustment layers, as well as Lightroom's parametric editing, are examples of non-destructive editing.
This open-source project targets 7 Adobe applications: Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Lightroom, After Effects, InDesign, and Acrobat Pro.
After professional applications such as Lightroom were ported to camera hardware, issues of sluggish UI response and insufficient memory became prominent.
Lightly processed RAW straight-out-of-camera files offer greater post-processing flexibility in software such as Lightroom and Capture One compared to deeply computationally processed HEIC files.
Adobe Lightroom has deep roots among professional photography user groups.
