Material 3
Google's third-generation mobile design specification, released alongside Android 12 in 2021. Its core innovation is a dynamic color system based on the Monet algorithm, which automatically generates a complete color scheme from the user's wallpaper.

The A2UI specification defines a basic catalog, which the Jetpack Compose renderer implements with Material 3 components; most components work out of the box, but the three media components image, video and audio player require developers to plug in their own library (for example Coil).
A2UI mitigates latency through progressive rendering: display begins as soon as the root component arrives, container components show loading placeholders for child components that have not yet arrived, and child components animate in with Material 3 motion schemes once they arrive.
Material 3 color schemes can be applied directly to Remote Compose components, keeping widgets consistent with the app's branding; existing Wear Material 3 design assets (including those in Figma) can be adapted to widgets fairly easily.
The team behind sports app FotMob was an early beneficiary of this skill; work that previously required manual fine-tuning of edge transformations is now completed automatically by the skill, which can also automatically switch to native Material 3 behavior.
Rotary input is an interaction mechanism unique to Wear OS, corresponding to the rotation of a smartwatch crown or bezel, and this input source does not exist in the standard Material 3 mobile component library.
Google provides skills specifically for Wear OS development, including creating a Wear app from scratch and incorporating features such as Material 3.
