Finbar: An Investment Research Platform Built for Investors and AI Agents

Finbar opens its hedge-fund-grade research platform to all investors with API/MCP and Excel-integrated AI agent capabilities.
Finbar, a financial data and investment research platform previously serving only top hedge funds, has launched on Product Hunt and opened to all investors. Its core offering includes global fundamental data via API/MCP, pre-built company financial models and industry primers, and an AI modeling suite for both web and Excel. Its standout feature is an "agentic" orientation — through the MCP protocol, AI agents can directly call platform data to autonomously execute research tasks, while Excel support preserves analysts' existing workflows. Already adopted by major hedge funds, key details like pricing, data coverage, and AI output reliability have yet to be publicly disclosed.
The tools used by top hedge funds are now opening up to all investors. Finbar recently launched on Product Hunt, announcing that its financial data and research platform is now available to all investors — and their AI agents. Previously serving only a handful of the world's largest hedge funds, the product earned 102 upvotes on its first day, landing at #18 on the daily leaderboard.

Bringing Institutional-Grade Research to Everyone
Investment research has long been a high-barrier field: quality fundamental data is locked behind expensive terminals, and modeling and analysis depend heavily on analysts' manual labor. Finbar's positioning is to open up the research infrastructure that was once only affordable to top institutions, making it accessible to a much broader range of investors.
According to its Product Hunt listing, Finbar's core offering covers three areas: global fundamental data delivered via API/MCP, pre-built company models and industry primers, and an AI research and modeling suite that works across both web and Excel. This combination aims to cover the full pipeline from data access to analytical output.
Notably, the platform has already been adopted by several of the world's largest hedge funds. For a product just opening to the public, this kind of institutional endorsement is often more persuasive than any marketing copy — it signals that the underlying data quality and modeling capabilities have already been vetted by professional buy-side investors.
The benchmark for institutional-grade financial data terminals is the Bloomberg Terminal, which costs approximately $24,000 per year in subscription fees and is primarily aimed at investment banks, hedge funds, and large asset managers. Refinitiv (now LSEG Data & Analytics) offers a comparable competing product. The barrier these terminals represent isn't just price — it's the breadth and historical depth of data, covering financial statements, valuation models, analyst ratings, and news events for tens of thousands of listed companies worldwide, all professionally cleaned and standardized. When Finbar claims to be "institutional-grade," it means the data quality and coverage meet the standards that buy-side institutions use for actual investment decisions, not merely as reference material. Adoption by top hedge funds is an important external signal that the data meets this standard.
